That will vary widely from one State to another and one city to another (also by actual store size or taxable market value).

For the Wal mart in my town here are the vital stats from public records:

Last recorded sale in '93 at $4.89 million
Current taxable market value $10.92 million (plus
    Gross Square Footage 131,688
    2008 building property taxes (PID #1): $340,453.62
2008 parking lot property taxes (PID #2): $115,284.62
    Total annual property taxes: $455,738.24

This is one of of lowest taxed of the 20-odd stores in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul area, with 34 stores statewide. I was not about to dig through county tax records for all Minnesota stores, but at $500K per year (probably low), 34 stores would pay more than $17 million per year to local governments in property taxes.

I do not know whether Minnesota is a "typical" State.
