  • Megafauna essentially translates as 'big animals', if you are talking about living animals, then creatures such as the native Kangaroo and Dingo or the introduced Camels would count. If you are referring to extinct life forms, then a search for information on Australia in the Tertiary Period, which contains the Paleocene, Eocene, Oligocene and Miocene eras.
  • Also when comparing to other continents it would be a good idea to find what age Australia was not apart of the original whole coninent, as alot of the Australian fauna is not found anywhere else in the world, where as animals like large predatory cats, bears, monkeys are found on many of the other continents. http://www.whitehat.com.au/Australia/Animals/MegaFauna.asp http://museumvictoria.com.au/prehistoric/mammals/australia.html http://www.abc.net.au/science/ausbeasts/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Australian_megafauna
