Help answer this question below.
This may sound like a silly question, but are you sure you are connecting the old TV to the *output* of the converter box and not the input, and likewise that the cable from the jack is not going to the output of the converter box?
If you did accidentally connect it the wrong way, I can see why the other TV would have problems; the converter box would be driving a signal out to the antenna, and interfering with incoming signals.
Help Anyone! Magnavox TV, model 27TS52. The picture has changed to a 1/4" horizontal line accross the middle of the screen. Evident that the picture is withing the line. Appears as if the vertical adjust has been made. How to recover? (2009-11-12)

You're reading I have 2 tvs. Use roof antenna, signal amp, and 2 splitters. One splitter runs coax cable to new tv and one cable to 2nd splitter. 2nd splitter runs to jacks in 2 rooms. When I hook coax from old tv to converter box I lose signal to new tv. Any ideas?

I'm not even getting to that point of the hookup. I'm just connecting the ant cable to the "ant in" jack of the converter box and I lose the signal to the new plasma tv. I don't even have the converter box plugged into the power outlet. I've gone up into the attic and used a long coax cable to bypass the second splitter and wall jack to see if that would have any effect. It didn't.

Maybe the "ant in" jack is mislabeled, and is actually an "RF out" jack. Try connecting the cable to the RF out instead and see if the picture is still messed up.

I tried using the "RF Out" connection and got the same results. I even borrowed another converter (same model) from my brother and had the same results.

Bizarre. The only other thing I would suggest is to try removing the signal amp and see if that helps. Maybe you are getting some sort of feedback.

Problem solved... It was the signal amp. I bypassed it. Good news was that I didn't lose the signal when I hooked up the converter box. Bad news was that without the signal amp the signal wasn't nearly as good. I bought another signal amp and tried it. Now I've got a good signal and I didn't lose it when I hooked up the converter box to my old tv. Thanks so much for the help.
