What are the property characteristics between delta-ferrite and alpha-ferrite and why is delta-ferrite largely considered undesirable, especially in cast structures?

    Generally Alpha ferrite is referred to as Ferrite while Delta Ferrite is the retained Austenite in the Microstructure. Retained Austenite is Undesirable as it is softer in patches and affects the Properties of Cast Iron
