That's how I felt, when I suddenly lost consciousness and banged my head! The bump was huge, but thank goodness, I didn't break my teeth :D

- I honestly have only been severly depressed once in my life, over a girl dumping me. I hated that feeling and never want to go back to that place ever again.

- I can only imagine. I've had my share of the blues since my mom passed in May and I have a whole new appreciation for the suffering people go through. I'd never been unhappy before in my life.

- I lost three family members at the same time several years ago, so hang in there it will get better. Our losses teach us to appreciate what we have and to do everything in our power to be sure we are there for those that love us and those that we love. Your mom is wanting you to learn the good things from her death not the bad things. The unhappiness you are feeling now will allow you to feel more joy as you move through life. It may even prevent you from future needless suffering. Lots of love!

- Thanks Smile, that was truly very kind. Mom was the glue of the family and now I've had to pick up the slack all around. It has not been easy shoes to fill. Peace.

- @ Bigessfour: I went through the same thing when I was in my early twenties. It took that depressed feeling a long time to go away. I could remember waking up many mornings with a goring empty feeling in my stomach. It finally went away when I learned that she moved out of state a year after the break up. The depression went away for good and my feelings felt better like a change in the weather.

  @Smile: Having lost most of my immediate family during the late 1980s, I'm down to having two sisters and a brother from a family which once stood at eight. I always focus on my fond and happy memories of my departed family members and I find comfort in thinking about the happier times.

  @Little Miss Dangerous: As so many of us know, Moms were always the strong persons who kept us all together as a family for so many years. We do move on and find new ways of coping when we create families of our own through marriage and we make new friends who are always there for us.

- Having your own family also makes it easier.
  I had a brother who lived at my mother's home and he had an awful time dealing with Christmas in that house.

- Aww. I can imagine. I was very lucky to get Mom to hospital or she would have passed in my home (shudders). My whole family comes here to celebrate, so it will be different this year, but still uplifting, I'm sure. Thanks Sm00z.

- Absolutely! I never go down without a fight. I'm actually doing much, much better. I just have down days...and this post happened to occur on a day when I needed to go to the cemetery for some residual paperwork :(

I hear the phrase "hit a brick wall" all the time in baseball. It deals mostly with rookie players who get fatigued near the end of the long baseball season and they are not hitting/pitching or playing as well as they did at the beginning of the year. The players are not prepared, able to make adjustments, or conditioned mentally or physically for the longer professional MLB season as compared to the shorter college baseball season.
