Not much point sending them before Christmas

Some. Thank you notes, cards, letters are almost a lost art. I have to admit though that I don't always get a handwritten letter out to everyone I'd like BEFORE Christmas (stuck inside a card). Many folks don't live nearby, so I don't physically see them over the holidays. So our cards, letters or boxes "are" our shared holiday. So some hear more from me beforehand .. and for others, I'll combine a letter with a thank you in January. Works out well that way.
