My husband was sealed in the Mormon church to his ex. He divorced her, and has had his name removed from the registry. We are since married and have a baby. His ex says that OUR baby is automatically sealed to HER per the Mormon Church. Is this true?

Hi there! I was just wondering a few things. I am in the middle of getting a divorce with my husband. He cheated! We are mormons! I am currently living with someone else and was wondering what will come of it when I go back to church?

You're reading My bf is mormon. i want to know what the difference is between "being sealed" or having an "eternal marriage" by being married in the temple is different from a normal ceremony where you light a UNITY candle that "seals" the marriage and make it "eternal"

in my religion we say all those same things. and yes there are many out there that dont abide them and divorce but when i say them one day i will mean them, whole heartedly. a unity candle is a large candle between 2 small ones. the mothers of both the people getting married light the little one and during the ceremony the bride uses one and the groom the other to light together the unity candle which symbolizes them uniting. i dont think it matters where the wedding is taken place. we have talked and if we do get married (if he can get passed this whole "temple" thing we are gonna fly out to california and get married on the beach)

So your church states that marriage is for eternity instead of just for this life? If so, that’s pretty cool. I’ve never heard of any church besides ours (and a few small LDS splinter groups) that do so.

yes it does. thats the point of a unity candle it unites the two individuals body heart and soul, forever.

Cool. I’d love it if you could explain this to me more. (Please don’t take offense; I’m not challenging, just honestly curious.) What is it about lighting the candle that you believe makes your marriage forever? In our case, we believe that God’s Priesthood (that is, the power by which He does everything He does) has been delegated unto man, and that only one with this divine authorization can seal a marriage not just for this life, but for eternity. Is it something like that? Do you believe that He has transferred His authority into these candles? (Again, I really don’t mean to offend; this is just completely new to me.)
Thanks!

its not the candles that unite its just a symbolism. you are united by a minister, by the ceremony itself, but its just a symbolism showing they were individuals who are now one. one body, one soul.
