  • Is it a manual 0r automatic? Several reasons it could be. Safety is the first thought that comes to mind.
  • there is a neutral safety switch that will not let a vehicle start in gear. If you van does not start in Park, only in neutral, your safety switch needs adjusting or is broken.
  • You van is most likely equipped with a device called a "neutral safety switch". The switch only allows the vehicle to be started in either Park or Neutral. If the switch is faulty or misadjusted, or if there is a problem with the shift linkage, it could cause the switch to not recognize the Park position. The repair should be relatively inexpensive. At worst, you'll have to purchase/install a new switch. Good luck.
