Well, it sure beats actually having to work for a living. Besides, it doesn't cost anything- the government pays for it. Right????

Robert A. Heinlein once noted that democracy starts to fail when the voters notice that they can vote for nothing but bread and circuses.

Less government does not mean less 'free money'. People vote for the people who they think will improve their own lives the most. It doesn't matter which organization supports the candidates.

No, because unless you are a subsistence farmer using self-made stone tools to work the land, we are ALL dependent upon the government, in a thousand ways both visible and invisible, for the quality of our lives and the economic possibilities it holds. As for government 'handouts'...well, we know who the real recipients are... . http://www.amazon.com/Take-Rich-Welfare-Mark-Zepezauer/dp/0896087069/ . http://www.amazon.com/Perfectly-Legal-Campaign-Rich-Everybody/dp/1591840694 . http://www.amazon.com/Free-Lunch-Wealthiest-Themselves-Government/dp/1591841917/ . . .

No. The reason Democrats get so many votes, is because people get tired of watching right-wing idiots, like Bush, run the country into the ground. Maybe if republicans did what they claimed during election years more people would vote for them. But when you claim you want smaller and less intrusive government, and then increase the size and powers of the government people think you're lying.
