  • In England many schools actually make you study LOTF for GCSE, and my school certainly never banned Huckleberry Finn...
  • Well Huck Finn is banned because it has the N word in it multiple times. This is considered politically incorrect and it is frowned upon. They probably don't want children reading these books.
  • Any time a book is banned in school, it is because someone (or their parents) is such a thin-skinned, overly-sensitive person that they feel that by banning a book they will eliminate certain aspects of reality. For instance, if Huckleberry Finn is banned, nobody anywhere will EVER use the word "nigger". I only use it here for illustration and not directed at anyone, so if you're offended by THAT then you should crawl back into your isolated underground shelter. The world is a harsh, cruel place. Cope or die. IMO, if kids are overly protected, they won't learn to deal with the harshness of reality. They are going to be ignorant, clueless, neurotic adults. I see it already in some of the young (17-20) people I work with.
  • I'm sure Huckleberry Finn was banned because of it's negative portrayal of black Americans during slavery and Lord of the Flies for it's portrayal of Anarchy rule and violence among a group of stranded children. I don't say that either are pleasant but if we ban everything not liked by someone then how do we teach future generations to learn from the past and be tolerant, positive members of society or realize life is tough?
  • Because in your country, social conservativism is in fashion.
  • Books are banned so that some of us know what to read. There is no point in reading anything that everyone agrees is appropriate and boring. Both of those are banned(if ther really are) because bad people do not want good people to see that bad people posing as good or normal people can do bad things.
  • Its called political correctness gone wild.
  • Because america is stupid (go on rate me down if you must, but you asked the question) We read lotf for gcse and for my A1 I did what could only be described as a pornographic novel!
  • I didn't know that they were. I had to read both of them for school in the last two years and if any of the books I had to read should be banned, those are not two that I think should be.
  • there not
  • Because ignorant people don't understand what the books are about. The fact that slavery and the N word are evident in Huck Finn has led some people to believe that it advocates slavery and racism, but this is totally wrong. Huck Finn is an incredibly ANTI-racist book, and unfortunately some people cannot see the real meanings of some of Twain's satirical criticisms. As for Lord of the Flies, it is also a great book, but anarchy plays a part in the story. The loss of childhood innocence and a savage uprising against civilization have caused this book to be banned in some places.
  • Leftist liberal democraps don't read much!
  • Ban books that use the dreaded "N" word and have bullying in the story line....but... the media and the liberals likes to glorify idiots like Kanye West. Take a look at his "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" cover, or listen to his lyrics. "My niggas put murder missions She choosin', that's her decision, free my niggas in prison On the phone with a bitch who can't do shit For a pimp but make a nigga hella rich" ...................and they're worried about Huckleberry Finn.
