I honestly don't see that being a major drawback. If you go to a great school and have the academic skills on paper then you should get in somewhere. If you want to know what particular school is looking then do your research. Howard University and Morehouse have great programs. But first and foremost don't limit yourself by removing potential opportunities before you've attempted to try them. And talk to HBCU grads that became Doctors because they should have some insight in how to succeed in this endeavor.

Not as long as you do well in college and involve yourself in service/leadership activities of some sort. Grades, taking personal responsibility and initiative, a demonstrated since of committment, a desire to serve others--these qualities are attractive to schools no matter where you attended previously.

Not sure where you live. But in the U.S. HBCU's were founded because blacks were not allowed to "study together" with whites in many cases.

Today, things are allegedly better. But in truth, in poorer communities (black, white, mixed, or whatever) in general, our educational system is failing miserably. We have 18 year-olds leaving the educational system who either can't read or read on a 3rd grade level. What's that about?

I'm certain this answered no one's question.

I'm not sure exactly but I have heard that colleges have minority quotas to meet when they admit new students. I'm not sure if it's the same with medical school or not.

Not at all. As a person who has watched the administration of a medical school from the inside, I can tell you that minority applicants (which I notice is not your question but an implication you make) who are as qualified as a non-minority applicant are highly sought after. Unfortunately, you have to discern for yourself if the school is looking to make you a statistic or not. Where I am, we are not, but unfortunately (in my opinion) some schools do and those of underrepresented in medicine status are treated as pawns in a game to make a better pamphlet. Students deserve better than that, and the schools should know better than that. But to be perfectly clear, being a minority with good educational credentials applying for medical school is a definite plus.

I have never heard of a HBCU until now.It doesn't matter if your Black ,White or Brindle, if you have studied and meet the intellectual criteria there should be nothing to stand in the way of you progressing to Medical school.

Where I live there is no such thing as HBCU, we all study together and it works.

    Best of luck.

It is sad but true that 'positive discrimination' is such that you will probably do better graduating from a HBCU than a non colour-specific (be that historically or otherwise), educational facility. How proud that makes you feel relative to how you would feel if you had graduated from a facility that was not focussed on skin colour is for you to live with.
