This may sound silly ,but do you have any flags attached to the outside of your car?

It is a wheel bearing depending on the year, make and model of the car in question it could be a front or rear wheel bearing. If it is a rear wheel drive car it is most likely a front wheel bearing if it is a front wheel drive car it could be from the front or the rear. Check it out or have it checked out as soon as possible if it goes to long it could become a safty hazard.

barring any added equipment that can vibrate at highway speeds, you may have a bearing going out. Some times roof racks or aftermarket antennas or even that jack in the box antenna topper can make noise. On cars without a power antenna it may be a loose antenna mast.

Just some stuff to check before going to the mechanic

The last couple of times I have heard a humming sound at speed, it has been the rear wheel bearings going south.

If it IS the wheel bearings, you should know that some cars require replacing the entire hub assembly as the hub unit (including bearings) is not servicable. This can run $200 or more. OTOH on some cars (like my 89 Golf) it's simply a 5-minute job and a $15-20 part.

I had the same problem with my 02 VW jetta. I had the front bearings replaced and the rears inspected at the dealership, who told me the rear bearings were fine. They said it was most likely the snow tires that I still had on. I just got a brand new set of all-season radials and had them balanced and front and rear alignment and still a humming noise. Any other ideas?

Its your bearing. have it replace of youll damage more of it.

To confirm if its really Bearing, elevate your tire from the ground and try shifting/tilting it left to right with force. Notice if it wiggles. If it does, it sure is bearing....
