  • Since our legal system - or any legal system in place today - cannot prevent false conviction, no.
  • I have to agree with AR, simply because of the possibility of false convictions. Even those where the case appears watertight, whose to say the evidence hasn't been doctored? Though it would appear that you have already started, and removed 1/5 of the penis from your question.
  • *Serial* rapists who have DNA evidence against them for 100% proof for each case..and confessed and/or serial child molestors... YES, I do think they should be castrated.. however.. who is to say they would not think of other sick and twisted ways to violate their victims? I think they should have their prostate removed altogether to kill their sex drive .. but that goes into a more indepth debate in which there is also the mental issues many rapists have in which they want to overpower, harm and dominate .. etc..
  • I agree with others - with even the slightest risk of false conviction, then No.
  • I would like to see rapists and child molestors casatrated, but again, only if the evidence is 100% against them. If there is even a shadow of a doubt, then you may be destroying an innocent person's chances to reproduce and have a happy sex life. I agree with Chris DG and AR, 100% - though it would be nice if the sickos got their just desserts every once in a while.
  • You can sexually harm someone even if you don't have a penis. Not only that but not all sexual preadators are men. Sexual assault is about power not sexual gratification.
  • You don't want to know what I think should be done to rapists, but believe me it's a lot worse than merely castrating them. But yes, with false convictions, it is probably best you don't
  • Even though to some, that may seem appropriate the answer is no. Many many years ago, men were castrated in order to stop rapes or sexual crimes against children. It was found even though the convict was castrated and released, his crimes continued only to escalate into assault, battery and murder. It's the brain that regulates their actions. I would say a Lobotomy would be more effective.
  • Being raped and molested as a child myself I would love to say yes, but I also don't think they should get castrated they do need to be punished more than a slap on the wrest though. I also know girls that have lied just to get a ex in trouble or just to get attention and the guy didn't do anything to them but they went to jail for awhile and have to live with the charges forever so it depends on the case and if there is evidence. I do strongly think they should be punished when there is evidence proving they have done wrong.
  • In response to my own question - I think maybe if there is proof (dna testing etc) then maybe peodaphiles + rapist should be prevented from having sex (either for negative purposes or consenting sex). However, castration is extreme, non reversable and as said by many, we cannot always be sure that the verdict is right. As educator also pointed out, rapists can be female, and you can be sexually abused. Although deep down I do not think it should happen, Castration of rapists would be embarassing, degrading, imasculating and, physically prevent sex, including 'normal', legal sex. Which would also serve as a public reminder not to rape people.
  • No, I don't think we should drag ourselves back to the dark ages. These men should be locked up with no chance of release but castration will not change the person, just make them more bitter and desperate to get justice against the system. These men should not have access to have children and should be closely monitored when released!!
  • GOOD IDEA
  • If we were serious about punishing crime, we'd convert some of our nice deep coal mines into prisons, remove the machinery and trade the prisoners a piece of bread for a sack of coal. This would keep them busy, keep them away from us, and always allow the reversal of a false conviction. There should also be a place of equal difficulty for women who make false accusations of rape. As Dennis Prager pointed out in connection with the Duke University situation, false accusation is how a woman rapes a man. As it is, imprisonment punishes the taxpayer, not the criminal.
  • I was sexually abused when I was in elementary school, but 2 of my abusers where twins sisters. I don't believe castration is the answer, but what would be the punishment for women of abuse? I actually believe with the right counseling, a person might be able to change. Not that I would leave my child alone with a convicted sex offender, but I honestly believe everyone deserves a second chance. I have healed and forgiven my abusers. They were all teenagers at the time and am hoping they have changed and it was just some sick teenage curiosity and I just happen to be the one they experimented on. But nonetheless, I do not believe castration is the right choice of punishment. What really does it solve? Unless you can change the thoughts and urges, they will continue to offend no matter what.
  • We already practice chemical castration-that not enough for ya?
  • No, rapists should not be physically castrated. We live in a civilized society, and even if the offender committed something uncivilized, physical castration is barbaric. It is like washing out a child's mouth with soap just because he or she uses a dirty word. You do not do something good for society if you do something bad yourself. Although most rapists are men, females can rape too. There have been cases where boys have been sexually assaulted by women, and ultimately these women were convicted. Do we legislate a law to cut off there clitorises and excise their ovaries? Rape laws cannot be choosy or sexist. They were not and should not be designed that way. That is why those who advocate such an inhuman method of punishment should re-think their position.
  • Those who know me well enough will understand what I am about to say. I don't think they should be castrated. I THINK RAPISTS WHO HAVE A HISTORY OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE SHOUD BE EXECUTED!!!!!!
  • I don't think that would solve the problem. Rape is a crime of violence. If rapists were castrated, they'd just find other violent ways to relieve what they're feeling.
  • I believe they should spend the rest of their natural born lives in a prison work farm. all the money they make should be given tax free to the victims. I have seen many victims of sexual crimes and once it is all said and done the victims are left to heal all by themselves with no real help from anyone. I think they should base this pay on no less then minimum wage. They should never be let out of prison to harm another.
  • no, but I do think we should remove someone's hands if they are caught stealing. both. With a blade preferably. in public. left in a back alley
  • Maybe castration should be considered in instances where it is a repeated offender. I totally agree with castration of a rapist, especially if the rape was brutal and the victim will never be the same again. The rapist should loose something as well. It is an eye for an eye, I guess! I dont know if any of you are aware that some states offer castration voluntarily to a repeated offender as a plea bargain for his freedom. That truly concerns me, I think the penis of a rapist is only a tool or weapon he uses to commit the crime. Freeing a criminal mind even when castration is perform is only letting them back into our community to commit the same crimes with other objects. In conclusion although castration can be part of the punishment it should not entitle them to freedom. They should be given the same opportunities they gave their victims.....NONE!
  • It'd make it more difficult for them to reoffend. Although, I'd be a little worried for the falsely accused. Someone recently brought to my attention just how many false reports are made.
  • yes. slowly and painfully right before execution. Rape is about power not sex so just castrating won't stop them. You had to keep them away from the public so it's either death or life in prison with cable, internet, free health care, free college education, life with many more things than most of us law abiding citizens get on our dollars..so I say death.. quick, painful as possible and cheap
  • No they should have the whole thing cut off! Iwork in max prison and hate reading files because of the molesters and ones that rape and old ladies
  • There would be a lot of guys running around without their dicks. Reasons: there are many rapes that go unreported, so if these were included the percentage would go up. Add in child molesters. Add guys that rape their girlfriends and wives. Add date-rape Then add "passive" rape, when guys mentally force their girlfriends, etc. into having sex even though they don't want to. So if all these rapes were reported, there would be a lot of dickless guys around.
  • if convicted without a question of a doubth, i say make them bleed, slowlyyy, im sorry thats what i feel
  • I think that rapists should be chemically castrated of physically castrated, but you can't cut the penis off because they would have to pee somehow. I'm fine with strict punishment, but if your goal is to kill them...just do it. If you are willing to let them live, let them live with the necessary physical capabilities necessary.
  • Not so sure that would be the correct answer. I have been castrated, testicles removed, since 1985, and I never raped a woman before that. Rape is a power play.
  • of course they should.
  • I'd be perfectly fine with that. I would just hope I wasn't charged for something I didn't do...
  • There is no reason to do such a thing, except for some sick quest for vengeance. I mean, you might as well just cut of their heads while you're at it. Hey, it's effective. They will never rape again. Really, there is a reason why we don't execute everyone who commits a crime...
  • Thats a nice way of doing it..yes..
  • Yep, and child rapists should be castrated then sodomised with a nail-bat.
  • Most certainly.
