Mr. Cruz cut a 36 meter piece of string into 9 equal parts. He gave 4 pcs to his son and 3 pcs to his daughter for the projects. How many meters of string was not used?

    I suggest you construct a 1:12 scale model of this. Use a 36 inch piece of cotton to represent the 36 meters. Cut it into 9 equal pieces (if you prefer you can calculate the length of each piece)

    Then hand out seven of the,m (three to one and 4 to the other for a grand total of 7)

    Finally - see how any pieces are left and measure them, remembering each inch represent s a meter
