    -5x from both sides
    9 = -x
    Multiply -1 on both sides
    x = -9

    The correct answer to your question is that 5x + 9 = 4x is an algebraic expression. If you wanted the value of x, the question should be "In the following expression, what is the value of x?" or simply "solve for x"
