Steel is a mixture of iron and carbon and lots of heat. Generally called carbon steel and accounts for about 90% of steel production. Charcoal or coke are used to produce the pig iron, along with fuel and air, of course. There other particular types of steel that have different materials, like chromium (stainless) or manganese (high strength) and other metals like nickel.
