  • You will build more muscle, which could make you faster but it is also a mental thing. Also there are limits to how faster you can go. Also there are special techniques you can utilize to be an efficient runner.
  • You will get tired a lot faster!
  • Depending on how you hold the weights, it could distort your running movement and perhaps even injure you. One way I improved my speed was running up flights of stairs, 2 steps at time, while I was wearing heavy boots.
  • I would't recommend any hold weights that weigh more than a couple pounds, you could hurt your back.
  • Instead of doing that, try running up a steep hill in your area. Doing these wind sprints will give you much more power, and are lots safer.
  • This is going to sound stupid, but research the techniques of being able to run fast, you'll get more speed through technique then you will through power. As far as weights are concerned, get a weight vest if anything so the weight is spread out evenly and you won't look like a goofball.
  • you will not run faster when holding the weights, and there might be a slight speed increase when you let them go, but it wouldn't last (unless this is something that you practice every day). you will build muscle, which will contribute to your power and explosive abilities. if you want to improve your speed through resistance, there's a really excellent football drill - you attach yourself with a harness to a weighted sleigh or even a tire and drag it behind you while trying to sprint. this way you can maintain proper running form, build muscle, and make you a more powerful runner.
