My ex boyfriend broke-up with me 8 months ago and now when we are in church he stares at me constantly and flirts with me but when I call him just to say hi, he acts very cold toward me. What is his problem when he is the one that broke it off?

Most likely its an issue of emotional immaturity coupled with the human tendency to "want what we can't have".

Perhaps in church your behavioral pattern is a bit more aloof and you don't pay him as much attention. Its common for people (of both sexes) to try to establish (for their own egos) that they can attain something that seems "out of reach". In this case, because you were once "his", your aloofness might trigger him to try to establish that you're still attainable.

Once you confirm it through your phone calls, perhaps he's satisfied and regresses towards his "cold" behaviors because, in actuality, he's not really that interested.
