Why won't my sound work even after I installed the motherboard cd with the via ac97 audio controller?

    Make sure the onboard sound chipset is turned on in the BIOS Setup (Usually, press DEL during the computer startup process, then check the Integrated Peripherals section for it).

    Make sure the volume is not muted or too low in your operating system's volume control. Check your speakers/headphones are connected to the right place (usually the green port for a simple 2.0/2.1 system, or headphones).

    Try downloading the newest drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website, probably available under your model's product page.

    Check Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager for possible conflicts between your sound and something else.

    try lookin at your device manager and disabling the sound card and the re-enable it, also if more than one sound card has previously been installed try disabling those as well
