obvoiusly the entire context shows he meant to say 47. 50-3, duh. How would you feel if you have been without sleep for several weeks, and your grandmother is dying?

Posting without a source shows a bias, to me.

Your source is very interesting, Fox News. Sometimes a question can be posed in such a way that you want others to agree. Ask yourself this, if McCain were elected and something happened to him, could you ever imagine Sarah Palin as our president?! She has never left the country. She just applied for a passport in 2007.

I think it was a simple mistake because of how tired he was. I've done stupid slip up's like that myself because of exhaustion. 5 days after my daughter was born (4 days in labor) a friend came over and asked her name. My mind went blank. Sleep deprivation and stress can do strange things to one's mind.

He made an incredibly trivial mistake?!? How DARE he! Well, I WAS going to vote for him, but not anymore. Cross him off of my list.

He may have been including places such as Guam and Puerto Rico. US unincorporated territory do have an impact on the US. I'm not an Obama fan but this question is kind of pointless.

i don't know the date he said that - it might have been after he heard about his grandmother's declining health. he might be tired from putting in 16 hour days, 7 days a week for 20 months. OR, maybe some guy who is running for president and was the president of the harvard law review doesn't know how many states are in the usa. i'd go with the first two.

i remember when mccain made a geographic blunder about the middle east. fox news never mentioned it, although that, too, equally demonstrated his lack of readiness to be president.

biden and palin, well, all the news media, fox to msnbc, agree that both provide lots of gaffs that make one question, maybe, their ability to be president.

if you pick out a president, i could pick out 10 gaffs that he'd made that could disqualify him to be president.

Well. you've got to add the "unofficial" states - England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Iraq, etc., so he's probably spot on

I wonder what the United nations would think, personally, I think a mistake like this is inexcusable, especially when he's trying to get elected, what are all of his supporters expecting, that the pressures and lack of sleep and all of the other excuses that people are making up for him are somehow going to vanish if he's elected and making life or death decisions for people.

I am absolutely not a fan of Senator Obama, but I do have to say that he was tired at the time and was most likely talking about campaign trips, and mistated them as states. I take far too much exception to his economic policies (Marxist), his questionable friendships (you are who you hang out with), and his idea that if you want to be tough on his campaign then you can no longer have access (FL reporter) to worry about his gaffe there or the fact that his VP pick called him too inexperience and is an idiot, or the BS internet rumors that he is a Muslim. He is just not a good candidate for the POTUS position now or ever.

Probably. On the other hand we have the other presidential candidate who mentioned the critical situation on the Iraq-Pakistan border, when Iraq and Pakistan are separated by 1,500 miles AND the country of Iran. *sigh*

Funny how people dismiss Fox as a source, but have no problem with a proven liar like See BS News, highly questionable ones like NBC, or fawning democrat lovers like CNN. Just because Fox isn't run by flaming liberals doesn't make them a useless news source.

The statement itself is trivial. But if McCain had said it, 'news sources' EVERYWHERE would have been making fun of him.
