Because kids who didn't read comic books were busy playing sports or hanging out with friends and members of the opposite sex.

It's not the ones that just read comics, but the ones that collect them, have the figurines and go to Comicon.

I know adults who read comic books, no one cares. Adults read the harry potter books- they've even got adult covers for them. Why should people look down on them? An adult had to write the comic books and Harry Potter. You'd think they'd get teased more for having a "child's" imagination than those who simply read their books, but that's not how it works. Adults get looked down on for reading things such as comic books because it's not a public social norm, and anything that's out of the ordinary, and not in it's little box, people fret about. Aside from that, I have some friends who are at the top of the social chain and they read 'em and talk about them with the 'weirdos'. But then again, this is our last year of highschool, it's not like it's elementary school, and it's not quite the adult world. Who gives a bleep what people think of you, do and read what you want, is what I say! :)

i'm not sure that's true. i think it's great when people have their own niche hobbies!! refuse to wear other people's labels and live the truth of your own life! peace

I dunno but I enjoy reading them, I make a decent living illustrating one and I think with all of the comic writers writing for television and film and all the comic artists doing storyboards and concepts for films and games, I guess people can call them losers all they want...but they are doing what they enjoy and getting paid to do it. I think Comics are one of the last pure arts that people can enjoy relatively cheaply and is easily accessible. You get all the goodness of a book and some art thrown in...and I think people don't always realize comic books aren't always about superheroes

If you read a comic ill never know... but if you go to the movie dressed as your favorite character that is a loser thing to do. And yes ill stop... point and laugh at the person... and then walk on... well unless they try and kill me with their plastic taser gun with the NEW strobe light added... Then ill continue to laugh at them until they start to cry and run home to mommy.

Primarily because comics are seen as a children's medium, and an escapist power fantasy.
