Help answer this question below.
They've done more to IMPROVE technology than they get credit for.
If it weren't for hackers, we would not have Linux, one of the best, most efficient and secure operating systems around.
We would not have Mozilla, the people who brought us Firefox and Thunderbird. And without Firefox, IE would have stagnated four versions ago.
We would not have Google.
Without hackers, the *only* source of software would be companies that care more about shareholder value and selling fixes and upgrades than about putting out a quality product in the first place.
This would also cause technology to stagnate as there would be little/no competition to catch up to.
And then there are other things. Hackers are more likely to want to get the most out of their machines without spending millions of dollars. A decent watercooling rig costs only a coupe of hundred can boost your system's speed by 20% or more.
Hell, if it weren't for hackers, we would not have home computers! Before Apple started selling, the thinking was that only companies, schools, and governments needed or even wanted computers!
Like all people though, there is a segment of the hacker population that has gone bad. Some call them Crackers, but I prefer Black Hats (as opposed to White Hat hackers like Jobs and Gates).
Unfortunately our sound-bite loving hysterical simple-minded society paints 'em all with the same broad brush just as many assume that ALL Muslims are America-hating terrorists.
I am envious.
I wish I could do it.
I wish I married one... I would be rich!!!!just kidding.
Crackers who intend to mutilate and/or destroy information is no good. If you have ever did something that it was not intended for then you have hacked something. There are good and bad hackers and without them we would not have the security that we have now with our information.
I find a lot of them to be self-important. Many of them claim, or comnvince themselves that they are 'fighting the system'... when most of the time for no real purpose or agenda they are just causing trouble for other workers.
I tihnk it's cool but dangerous LOL!
i have been learning how to do it from lookyboop who is a hacker on youtube who posts videos and such
I am just worryd about the FBI getting my info so I don't hack much.

a hacker is a person who breaks into computers, usually by gaining access to administrative controls. The subculture that has evolved around hackers is often referred to as the computer underground. Proponents claim to be motivated by artistic and political ends, and are often unconcerned about the use of illegal means to achieve them
