Does anyone think the European Union Charging airlines for their emissions of CO2 into the Atmosphere will really effect the green house effect at all?

It will not change ONE persons decision to fly. This is simply a deceptive way to tax flyers. If you are in an EU country, expect more of this nonsense. I LOVE clean air, but this will not change behavior. But as Bob says, lots of people want to believe that they can change the world. We do like our comforting self-deceptions. Virtually every city in Europe has burned so much high sulfur coal that their beautiful buildings turn black every winter. This dense black smoke rising from many homes and businesses has a much greater impact on health and environment than air travel C02.

Rome was not built in a day. This is the first small but sure step towards reducing pollution. We have a very good example in the maritime industry where EU has imposed restrictions on the use of high sulphur fuels around black sea and other areas to reduce SOX and NOX emmisions . It too started as a small step but by 2010 will be enforced in many parts of the world.
