Question

Help answer this question below.

I got my tongue pierced yesterday night and tonight I noticed a bruised look to the front of my tongue in just one spot. It's big, dark blue, to the right and pretty dark. Should I be worried?

Yes, I would be very worried. A professional piercer should know exactly where to stick the needle through. It sounds like he may have hit a major blood vessel and is collecting blood inside the tongue. You could get nerve damage and lose sensation in your tongue. Any professional piercer should be very careful in avoiding major blood vessels that are very clearly seen from the bottom of the tongue. I would see a doctor as soon as possible.

i am a former piercer. i did it for 2 years, you might want to take it out. it sounds like whoever pierced you hit a vein. always a bad sign.

omg yes you should be extremely worried. you could die. Someone not to far from where I live, went to a proffessional piercer, and yet, the woman was slightly off on where she supposed to pierce the tounge and the woman who was getting pierced died not long after because of it. I suggest you go to the doctor IMMEDIATLY, no matter what time it is, you could die, I don't want to say any minute, but I think I might have to. Please go and have them do something.

Do your piercer use clamps? Often it's hard to not bruise a tongue with clamps since they're so wiggly.

No, not right away. I got mine done six days ago and I had the same dark blue spot. I went to the place that did it and he said it is just a bruise. Mine went away 3 days later. I started to rinse with salt water to, which helps a lot also. I would give it a few days and if it is still there, then I would have it looked at.

yes, that sounds the signs of an infection. it's possible it's just sore and you react more senstive though. wait another 2 days or so, if it gets worse, go to a doctor

I pierced for 6 years. It could be a number of things. The first thing to keep in mind is that if it is right after the piercing is done most "skin pens" that are used for marking the entrance and exit are purple in color. Also, as someone else eluded to the clamps that are used will wiggle because of the saliva even after your tongue is dried off. If it was a vessel hit your tongue would be noticeable swollen and more in one certain area and you would feel the liquid blood under the thin "skin" of the tongue. When I pierced I ALWAYS used a rubber band on my clamps to keep the pressure because if you clamp down to one of the notches it will squeeze it too tightly and bruise and cause more problems. If your rinse with a mixture of 50% Listerine (not the nasty yellow, blue or green) and water every hour or so the first 48 hours and then do a rinse of warm water with some seal salts it should heal perfect. The water/Listerine mix will keep infection from setting and keep the "wound" clean and then the sea salt mix will pull any bacteria or foreign objects like pieces of food from the hole and help ease off the swelling. I also always recommended ibuprofen for the first 3 to 5 days for swelling as needed. Hope this helps some.
