It's called trigger finger and it's cause by a hard nodule that comes about near the bottom of the finger.
I am currently being treated for this condition. The doctor gave me a shot of novacaine and cortisone in the nodule yesterday morning. The verdict is out on that treatment working for me. My hand and finger are very sore today.:(
