On Page 21 in your owners manual for your reciever Paragraph 7. it says set the the signal type to match your Audio connection: ANALOG, OPTI1,OPTI2, OR COAXIAL. Choose the source by pressing the MODE button and the SELECTOR +/- keys on the reciever, or the DIGITAL button on the remote control. If this fails to work make sure you connections from the DVD unit is installed correctly. You have three choices to hook up your sound from the DVD player. In some cases you are limited it all depends on what DVD unit you own. The three are: 1. your left and right audio cable which is marked Red for right speaker and White for left speaker. 2. Is the Optical connection, and 3. your Coaxial connection. Chances that it say VCR/3 optical because the connection is not connected right. Hey we all make that mistake. From your DVD, connect the left and right audio wire from the output of your DVD player to the DVD input audio on your reciever. This will allow you to play the analog mode. NOTE: this will not give you the Surround Sound effect. Nor, will it give you the DTS, or Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Only sounds from your left and right speaker. If you don't have the correct audio wire you can buy it at your local electronic stores. Ask your sale rep. for the left and right audio wire. But most older DVD's are recorded in the 2.0 format which is the analog format. I hope this helps you out. Enjoy your movies
