Many kinds of journals exist. Which kinds for you (& why): art journal, travel journal, personal writings journal, diary, scrapbook journal, dieting journal, exercise journal, dream journal, gratitude journal, memories journal, ____?

Little did you know? (smiling) Who knows? Perhaps you'll begin to write a little of whatever insights ccme as well .. and then .. who knows? Nice friend to go that direction for a birthday gift.

Can't go wrong with that advice. Certainly the A Number One thing for any of us to remember is to "just do it". lol
Beyond that though, think we all have our own systems. Yellow pads, notecards, digital files, lists, white boards, backs of envelopes .. and yes .. many different kinds of journals.
In the world of journals, there are some types I've never used and probably won't. I'm no artist, so can't imagine having pages of original watercolors in between pages of text. However, lots of other kinds of pages and journals are wonderful. After awhile, habits develop. Pull one out and already .. heart and mind begin to "go there" .. ie .. time to write! :)

Yes, Xanga is an identical version of LJ but considered 'old school' and more commonly used.
