I think it is an excellent example of hypocrisy which is always rampant 24/7 in some sections of some political parties. They generally yell loudest and point fingers most consistently at those whom they deem "guilty" of horrible crimes..like, say, $400 haircuts. Why do they do this? Because they are hiding far worse "crimes" and wish to divert attention from themselves...the best defense is a vigorous offense..thus they are always offensive! :) Happy Wednesday, my friend! :) ((hugs))

Alexis de Tocqueville said every nation tends to get the government it deserves... maybe the Edwards/Palin concept of beauty and grooming is being foisted on America because that is what America deserves.
-
Funny I just got an email from a family member that was complaining about a luncheon that Michelle Obama had that cost $400 at the Waldorf Astoria. At least Michelle Obama spent her own money!
-
You know ... this is the sort of nonsense that makes me want to vote for McCain. Jeeze. Get tha frack OVER it!
-
This is the kind of crap that has to stop on both sides of the party! I hate that my hard earned tax dollars are going for all this wasteful spending. I wish I could keep some so I could afford a haircut and some new clothes.
-
If the GOP decided that was the best use of my donations to get McCain/Palin elected I'm ok with it. We are on the same page as far as winning the election
-
Maybe they should be putting ino the 7 billion debt instead.
-
Hey, you wouldn't want her to appear in public with holes on her pantyhose and gray roots, now do ya?
-
Personally it doesn't bother me at all. Campaign money is just that, money for the campaign. The candidates do have to look presentable during the campaign. If the money was coming from tax dollars, than that is different. However, as it is even said in the question it comes from donations.

If Sarah Palin were the type of woman to spend that kind of money on clothing, the party wouldn't have had to spend a dime on her. My guess is she probably didn't have much in her closet but jeans. She lives in Alaska, for pities sake. I bet she's never worn clothing this expensive in her life. If the party hadn't spent that money on clothing for her, everyone would be chastising her for dressing badly. The truly sad commentary is on us. If we as a nation were better people, we'd have accepted Sarah Palin's wardrobe as it was, and not needed her to have better clothing.
-
As far as I am concerned it's just the RNC wasting it's money. They claim it's because she didn't have the wardrobe necessary, which might be true, but buying a ton of expensive designer clothes is a piss poor way to show Joe Sixpack "I'm just like you". Should she be chastised... Nope. Her handlers, her assistants... the schmuck who let the story out... Oh Yeah.
-
Both parties are guilty of this. It needs to stop all around. But there will always be a double standard. One accues the other of doing what they do, and its right on their side and wrong on the other.
-
And what do you think of Obama spending $2million on a party in Grant Park,Chicago?
-
As I posted on another almost identical question on this topic, if Sarah Palin had anything suitable in her closet, the GOP wouldn't have needed to buy her anything. Sarah Palin has probably never worn anything that expensive before. She lived in Alaska. She is a hunter. Her wardrobe was probably mostly jeans. If they hadn't bought her clothes, the same media talking heads would be blasting her for dressing badly. The real commentary is on us. If we, the voters, didn't expect candidates to dress in high style, we'd have accepted Sarah Palin's wardrobe for what it was.
-
If she spent $150,000 of her own money on the clothes, I wouldn't have given the story a second look, but the RNC spent the money on her. While, as a Democrat, it sort of works in my favor because its money the opposing party has wasted (in my opinion), I wonder how Republicans feel if they have donated money to the RNC.
-
while the RNC bought the clothes for her, they were also telling her what to say in every speech too. So, I think that since she is going to donate all te clothes to charity afterwards AND she has gone back to wearing her OLD clothes from alaska....I think that SHE AS A PERSON has done nothing wrong. all she did was wear them. she might not have known where they came from or how much they all cost. it's really not that big of a deal.
-
I would be pissed off if I had donated to RNC. But I didn't. With the Dems getting so much more money I would think the Republicans would have been a little more cautious with theirs.
-
That all depends on what the contributors who donated the money that bought her make over and wardrobe think
-
I think that the RNC should answer to this one, not Mrs. Palin. Yes, it may be a lot of money to spend on clothes - bear in mind that it outfitted her entire family for their multiple public appearances - but this kind of expenditure is not uncommon in preparation for high profile, high exposure events.

The woman lives in Alaska, has 5 kids, just giving birth to one this year, I'm sure she didn't have the clothing necessary for a VICE PRESIDENT. Oh how the press would have eaten her if she took the stage wearing anything less then she did. As for HER spending the money, she hasn't stepped foot in most of those stores. The waredrobe was purchased FOR her and BROUGHT to her. 1/3 of it was sent back. I doubt she knew how much most of that stuff cost, I couldn't tell you either, as I'm not a label whore, like those in NYC, LA or DC. I didn't know what she was wearing was so special, I just knew she looks like a million bucks...a bargain for 150K apparently! She is running for the second highest spot in our nation. She NEEDS to look good. The world is watching. I think it was money well spent..REGARDLESS if it's going to charity.
-
It's just another issue for people who are not happy with their own lives to whine about.
-
No. It wasn't her that spent the money. It was the RNC. They're the ones to blame. They saw a budding star who is fairly good looking and wanted to glamorize her. If anything, they should be chastized.
-
I guess since she can't say anything smart, they figure she should at least LOOK the part.
-
It's not a big deal at all im sure all the candidates spent that kind of money. The problem is when she's telling me people that "im just like you" it doesn't sell becasue i don't 150,000 dollars for cloths.
-
I'm just glad she didn't charge the state of Alaska for it. As long as she doesn't get it illegally, I really don't care what the woman wears.
-
I see stuff like this and I think she could never win no matter what she did. She is a brilliant woman who was unfairly discriminated against because of her beauty. If she looked ugly that would have been commented about too. So the way I see it is if you will be criticized for your looks no matter what. You might as well look good.
