    Inquisitive minds want to know...

I rarely go to either....but I am usually a busy person....so I bring something to work on while I wait......or I enjoy the break and flip through one of the disease-infested magazines.

(Can you imagine how many sick hands have been on those magazines? Good thing I'm not a germ-phobe!)

Yes for a number of reasons:

    1) I allow time because of personal experience.

    2) I know that the doctor cannot 100% predict how long each patient will take.

    3) I have held up doctors and patients before as they have given me extra time.

    4) I bring a book.

I do not have problems with waiting for doctors or dentists. It is essential I bring along my backpack with my reading material, a scrap book to write, sufficient water and my cell phone. I will choose a quite place then I would be fine. My doctors are in the public hospitals and so I am quite accustomed to waiting for half a day before I am done with the doctors. Waiting for my dentist in the private dental clinic is generally easier because I go by my appointments.

No i dont mind, It is often due to the fact that being in the healthcare profession in not one where you can say, "okay, next on the list is ready to be seen". You have to judge who gets seen in the order of priority. It is just the way of the profession.

Yes. I realize that it's not always possible to predict how much time a particular person will need. Patients develop new or worsening symptoms, or other life problems will be overwhelming. Should I kick out somebody sobbing over the sudden death of their spouse, just because they're making me run late? Everyone needs to keep in mind that some day I might need to run late for them. I appreciate that my own doctors are experiencing the same balancing act.

And some of those folks who claim that an appointment time is inviolate are the same ones complaining that the doctor won't take time to listen to them.

I have no choice but I will say it depends on what I'm there for. If its a general visit then I don't mind waiting for a while(just don't like 3 or more hours to see them for 10 minutes with an empty office) but if its to see a dentist & have a tooth pulled or filled its torture because my mind keeps playing the torment my mouth is going to go through so by the time I get in there I'm having a panic attack. I'd rather go in & get it done as fast as I could so my mind don't have time to wonder & torment the rest of me,lol.

An appointment time is a contract, with offer acceptance and consideration. They offer a 2:00 PM appointment time, I accept. The consideration is I show up on time, and they should be ready. I give them 10 very generous minutes. If they aren't ready, that is breach of contract, I leave without paying. They could try to collect, but I'd win for they broke the contract.

    No.

Waiting for doctors or dentists is not something that I look forward to doing. I have nothing against them, they have noble professions, but personally I avoid them as much as I could.

I don't usually complain, but when I arrive on time I do get a little irritated if they are running obscenely behind and did not call to notify me, as I would do for them.
