They have returned to the mystical place where they returned. All pictures on digital cameras are created in a mystic place known as the "nether" and then, when you capture that moment the lords of camera move them from the "nether" to your memory card.

In order to fix this you must sit in a corner, surrounded by cameras of yesteryear (5 of them, facing out from the corner behind you in order to capture the world behind you) and pray for forgiveness for having taken the use of the camera as we know it for granted. Whilst you pray take a living hamster in your right hand and lift it up to the gods as a sacrifice to satisfy their need for film development fluid (film developer is to them what blood is to us). If the hamster is frightened and tries to escape (without you holding in place, for that is forbidden), then you have sinned and must self-flagellate as penance.

    I wish you luck, brother.

Yes. And you probably infected both computers. In the food industry, we refer to this as "cross contamination". Better take them both to the Geek Squad ASAP.

Sorry about your pics, they may be lost.

If you copied them onto the flash drive, they should be on the mac whee they were initially. if you moved them, ... not.

Flash drives are notoriously unreliable in my experience. They're useful for sure but I'd never trust my only copy to one.

Perhaps there is a service to repair/recover flash drives. If there isn't there should be.

Oh my, you have to hit the reset button the the flash card, you get to it by opening up your USB flash drive, it should have a seam, where you use a screwdriver to open it up. After you've reset it's state, you should see it boot up as usual.

If you copied the pictures they should still be on the mac. If you moved them you have to do as wineluver says.
