Help answer this question below.

This is a plea to kindergarten know hows... approproprite homework! 7 weeks into school yr we are getting book reports asking them to write sentences about the book. These kids are not reading yet (2 of 18 are). District curriculum says k-1 on that. help!

    When I was 4 years old I was reading War and Peace and was devouring Descartes.

    We have a similar process here but the child just draws a picture about the book and then copies(draws the letters) a sentence about it. This is done as part of a group. I cannot see how a K can be expected to write an entire sentence on his own. Perhaps parental participation is encouraged during this. You could always ask. Most teachers enjoy talking with the parents about their students. There are the occasional teachers that miss the point entirely and if you have one of those, my sympathy. They are right no matter what and there isn't much you can do about it.
