  • Yes of course a lot of people do . It is the natural competitive spirit, be it mental or physical most people would like to be at the top rather than an also ran.
  • Of course. Some people get "angry" online when someone disagrees with an opinion or answers a joking question with a joking response. The general intention of superiority, as Firebrand said, is of course one of the key motivations. As well, some people transfer their personality in real life to the internet by trying to make strict control of the freedoms of expression on this site.
  • DUDE! YES. Like that chick, Amanda. I was like...um...duh. It's a JOKE! And I swear....I thought she was going to defend the sanctity of her marriage! (Thumb's up for posting this question so I could vent. Hahah.)
  • My favorite point about this kind of question is that you're not interacting with a web site, you're interacting with a bunch of *people*. And lots of *people* do indeed take things too seriously, react angrily to criticism, misinterpret humor as insult, and all sorts of things like that. The fact that there's a web site between us doesn't change the basic dynamics of human relationships. Learning to listen, trying to be courteous and respectful, standing up for yourself without being rude, forgiving, etc., etc. -- it all matters here just as much as it matters in "meatspace".
