  • Is it possible you have epilepsy? A few medicines that you pick up off the shelf at the drug store can potentially increase the frequency of seizures in people with epilepsy, or even cause first-time seizures. The most common one of this kind is probably diphenhydramine, the active ingredient in medications like Benadryl, which is used for colds, allergies, and to promote sleep. If you have epilepsy, you should talk to your doctor before you use it.
  • The first time I had a grand mal seizure was the night I took benadryl....I got diagnosed with epilepsy. Had seizures ever since. A lot of medicines with certain drugs CAN in fact spark neuro transmitors in your brain and cause you to have a seizure if you do have epilepsy. See a neurologist quickly. Because you've woken up that part of your brain that was dormant with the seizures (if you do have them) You could be driving down the road and have one. Those things come with no warning, and theyre dangerous. I've been on meds since I was 8. I'm 24 now and the meds keep them controlled.
  • I take a Rx drug and have taken it for about 15 years. It is a mild controlled drug which helps me to sleep. Temazepam 15 mg. My Dr. says I can double up on them if I need to. I also take benadryl in addition because I have allergies. I take both at bedtime. You need to see a real doctor about this.
