dead leaves raked in a pile

    With great care.

Molten glass is picked up on the end of a long metal tube and literally blown by mouth.

The tube is rotated to keep the bubble even, metal tools are used to shape the glass as it's being blown, it is periodically reheated to keep the glass soft.

WHen it is the right size and shape, shears are used to cut the glass and release it from the tube. The piece will often be transferred from one support to another to allow the two ends to be worked on.

You can take a tour at many factories where this work is done. Waterford factory was fascinating.
