It is wrong to get or ask for a tip before services is performed. Often, you tip according to how well they did. And sometimes you don't feel like doing it at all, especially if it's the owner of a place. IN a spa or resort setting, often it's assumed you will be tipping since they don't get paid as much than if they work out on their own.

If you bought these as a gift, then I'd feel free to not tip and either give the person your giving the gift to some tip money or just leave it to them to decide if they want to tip. I think the therapists is just trying to get more money by getting you to tip now and then she will want a tip from the person getting the massage, too.

It doesn't sound cool to me. I'd find a better more relaxed, therapeutic place to get a massage and not one where money is the big issue. Raising up paying like this is enough to undo all the relaxing and de-stressing a good massage can do.

My husband is a massage therapist and had his own place and never assumed someone would give a tip. Tips were always extra if the client wanted to do so.

  • Is it proper to ask for a tip in advance? the massage therapist asked if I wanted to add the 20% tip on to my receipt for 3 massages purchased as a gift. Is this right to come out and ask for a tip. She also told my boyfriend he could leave a tip.
