Is Taekwondo only a sport?

    While the sporting tournament aspects of TKD are only a sport, many TKD instructors insist that TKD is much more than just a sport, as they tend to include the entire blend of the three main foundation arts of Hapkido, Hwrangdo, and Tangsoodo as being part of TKD ... while the basics of the three arts ARE within TKD, calling the whole blend TKD is a matter of opinion ... some see TKD as only a sport, some see it as both parts of a blended set of martial arts, the sport part and the blended combat part made from the three foundation arts ... it all depends on how you choose to define TKD ...

    ... my personal opinion is that the name Taekwondo should refer to the sport, and the three names of the three foundation arts should still be used to refer to the very effective combat aspects ... I have met many who agree, and I have met many who disagree ... but there is no absolutely correct answer, as it is a matter of opinion.
