  • Start by determining how "they" know that the alternator and battery are "good". Check the battery with a voltmeter? It's fairly easy to make the call. Alternators can be bench tested. AutoZone, for example, will test them for free.Alternators are also simple devices to test-voltage in, voltage out. What you need to find out is about all of the other stuff in your charging/starting sytem. Voltage regulator? Probably in the alternator and deemed "good" by "they". Cables and terminals? Cables can look okay on the outside but be corroded beyond belief when you pull the insulation back. An ohmmeter will tell you of a bad cable. Terminals can get corroded, They can develop an insulating glaze between themselves and the battery. They may look fine but you'll be walking anyway. Clean them with sandpaper or a wirebrush. Good luck vic
  • i have checked the batt and the cables and there all good...when there is a load put on the system the volts drop down to like 12.2 to 10.8 and when the load is off of it it goes back up to 13.3 to 13.8 or 9..so does that mean the batt is not holding up under a load?because autozone advance auto parts all say the alt and batt check out good so please help me?
