actually I don't believe the Bible is true. It is too full of contradictions and stories that I have to ask "how can that possibly be true". Stories that promise that God will do things but they just NEVER seemed to include me in those promises. I think it's a book that people use as a crutch to hold onto kind of like some people get into love story books

The Bible is Not God. further it can easily be discerned by the casual reader (in the Hebrew form) that Genesis is prose in nature - if you prefer a 'poem' or a 'song'. Great truths can be handed down from generation to generation through the oral prose form - this does not mean that the outcome or the literal take on what was said is the 'right' answer. The Creation story is a prologue - a 'this is what happened before...' The mistake is always in the reader, not in the writing. Unfortunately few individuals appear to understand the difference between floral prose and literal 'scientific text'. If they did then much of the confusion over the bible would be laid to rest and people would understand the purpose of the Word. The Purpose? The Bible is an attempt to explain Man, God and the relationship of the two.

Your question only makes sense if you agree that: 1. a god exists 2. a single God exists 3. the Bible is God's word As point 1 cannot be proven, I don't see any reason to believe it. The Bible is an interesting book, but not a basis for scientific knowledge.

"A thousand years is like a day to God." < Bible says. What's so hard to understand that? I do. I have been studying the Bible for over 45 years and I have found no contradictions, that is because I received "the gift of the Holy Ghost" who can only come into someone who loves God and what He stands for and wouldn't think (not even entertain the thought) of life without Him in it! I had a miraculous healing within 3 seconds after I asked...9 yrs of pain GONE! and the area of pain I assumed would go back to normal (if He healed me) was pluperfect! FOR A WHOLE MONTH! It didn't match the rest of my body that I thought was fine, but that felt achy compared to the healed area, and there was a set of hands AS REAL AS MINE inside where the pain use to be, for 3 days and 3 nights, I could count the fingers, and the thumbs pointing upward and the wrists fitted together at my spine, WHAT A SOOTHING BRACE! and you better believe it...I took advantage of the new strength "spine" I got from God! Did things I wouldn't even think of doing before for fear of hurting myself...I had no fear and lifted, carried and built large things, and since that healing Aug. 22, 1996, that pain never came back. I went to the doctor for a physical and he said he found cells in me that were half human and half something else "...mind telling me what this is about?" (???!!!) So, now, NO ONE can convince me there isn't a God! < and that's not all that happened to/for me since. God refuses evil hearts, He makes it clear in His Word that He will not answer the wicked, disrespectful, mockers, arrogant, know-it-alls (especially to Him!). He must have ALL your love and humble respect, appreciation and for giving you life (thinking of you), your full attention, adoration, thoughts, plus. Worship Him, not people, self, things, etc. For only He is what worship is for! First Commandment. Amen. Just call me "Spine for God" O;-) I can stand strong against the enemy now (for God)! Thank You Jesus!

Yes, God's Word is true. However there is a fundamental difference between truth and fact. It is true that God exists but I cannot prove it. It is a fact that President Bush said he invaded Iraq because of weapons of mass destruction but it is not true. Catholics believe that the Bible teaches truth about God but it is not historically factual at all times. The Bible's primary purpose is to teach us the truth about God and His (or Her) love for us and how we should love each other, not to teach facts about history or science. All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work. (2 Timothy 3:16-17) For more information, see the Catechism of the Catholic Church, section 105 and following: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/pt1sect1chpt2.shtml With love in Christ.

The only words I have ever heard from any god were spoken to me after I was dead. She told me to go back to Earth, as my time had not yet come. . But if by "God's word" you mean the Bible, then you are in serious need of re-evaluation. "The Bible" is a collection of several dozen writings by several dozen men and one or two women. Each writing was voted on by a council of bishops who were, above all, trying to justify their jobs as bishops and their power over their subjects/followers. And to please the Emperor.

I think that the Christian/Abrahamic god doesn't exist. I worship different gods and goddesses (but thats aside the point) There are to many contradictions, and there are alot of cover ups that I have uncovered. And even if that god did or does exist, I wouldn't want to worship him, hes an asshole. =/

i think anything that has to do with history is bs. yes certain things can be proven. however the people that determine "history" are the people that write the books. take for example the news. and event will happen. but cnn and fox will put different spin on the same event. same thing in recording history. i think a persons thoughts, points of view always alter the way things are.

Personally I believe in the scientific reasons as to why we are here. I also don't agree with the fact that the Bible/Pope are infallible. This is why I am no longer a Christian. The bible was written by humans and the Pope is human, so they too can make mistakes. I am a spiritual person, but I mostly believe in science when it comes to the earth, etc.

I think its more important that the account given in Genesis appears in the same order that a person standing on earth would have seen creation according to science, if a person could have been standing on earth. So if God gave a person a vision of creation as it happened, what they wrote down was exactly how Big Bang theory now says it happened. http://www.leestrobel.com/videoserver/video.php?clip=CCNT1728 http://www.leestrobel.com/videoserver/video.php?clip=CCNT1731 http://www.leestrobel.com/videoserver/video.php?clip=CCNT1729 http://www.leestrobel.com/videoserver/video.php?clip=strobelT1198 And before you decide this guy is some preacher with no education and an honarary doctorate from some college you never heard of, here is his C.V. http://www.reasons.org/about/staff/ross.shtml#education And by the way, that 6000 years old thing is an outdated theory from the 1600's. The Bible never says that anywhere.

Your question assumes a belief that the Bible has, or ever has had, anything to do with the word of God. God is a title, not a name, and does not denote a specific deity unless associated with a religion. This question is not categorized under any particular religion. I don't believe that the Bible has, or ever has had, anything to do with the word of any deity. Thus, it is not any deity's word. It is just a collection of religious myths and beliefs held in ancient times by the authors. If one believes that the Bible is the word of any deity, then there is no room for error. If there is error (and it has been conclusively demonstrated many times by science), either it isn't the word of any deity, or the deity was lying/delusional.

The Bible’s Viewpoint Does Science Contradict the Genesis Account? MANY people claim that science disproves the Bible’s account of creation. But the real contradiction is between science and, not the Bible, but the opinions of so-called Christian Fundamentalists. Some of these groups falsely assert that according to the Bible, all physical creation was produced in six 24-hour days some 10,000 years ago. The Bible, however, does not support such a conclusion. If it did, then many scientific discoveries over the past hundred years would indeed discredit the Bible. A careful study of the Bible text reveals no conflict with established scientific facts. For that reason, Jehovah’s Witnesses disagree with “Christian” Fundamentalists and many creationists. The following shows what the Bible really teaches. When Was “the Beginning”? The Genesis account opens with the simple, powerful statement: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1) Bible scholars agree that this verse describes an action separate from the creative days recounted from verse 3 onward. The implication is profound. According to the Bible’s opening statement, the universe, including our planet Earth, was in existence for an indefinite time before the creative days began. Geologists estimate that the earth is approximately 4 billion years old, and astronomers calculate that the universe may be as much as 15 billion years old. Do these findings—or their potential future refinements—contradict Genesis 1:1? No. The Bible does not specify the actual age of “the heavens and the earth.” Science does not disprove the Biblical text. How Long Were the Creative Days? What about the length of the creative days? Were they literally 24 hours long? Some claim that because Moses—the writer of Genesis—later referred to the day that followed the six creative days as a model for the weekly Sabbath, each of the creative days must be literally 24 hours long. (Exodus 20:11) Does the wording of Genesis support this conclusion? No, it does not. The fact is that the Hebrew word translated “day” can mean various lengths of time, not just a 24-hour period. For example, when summarizing God’s creative work, Moses refers to all six creative days as one day. (Genesis 2:4) In addition, on the first creative day, “God began calling the light Day, but the darkness he called Night.” (Genesis 1:5) Here, only a portion of a 24-hour period is defined by the term “day.” Certainly, there is no basis in Scripture for arbitrarily stating that each creative day was 24 hours long. How long, then, were the creative days? The wording of Genesis chapters 1 and 2 indicates that considerable lengths of time were involved. Creations Appear Gradually Moses wrote his account in Hebrew, and he wrote it from the perspective of a person standing on the surface of the earth. These two facts, combined with the knowledge that the universe existed before the beginning of the creative periods, or “days,” help to defuse much of the controversy surrounding the creation account. How so? A careful consideration of the Genesis account reveals that events starting during one “day” continued into one or more of the following days. For example, before the first creative “day” started, light from the already existing sun was somehow prevented from reaching the earth’s surface, possibly by thick clouds. (Job 38:9) During the first “day,” this barrier began to clear, allowing diffused light to penetrate the atmosphere. On the second “day,” the atmosphere evidently continued to clear, creating a space between the thick clouds above and the ocean below. On the fourth “day,” the atmosphere had gradually cleared to such an extent that the sun and the moon were made to appear “in the expanse of the heavens.” (Genesis 1:14-16) In other words, from the perspective of a person on earth, the sun and moon began to be discernible. These events happened gradually. The Genesis account also relates that as the atmosphere continued to clear, flying creatures—including insects and membrane-winged creatures—started to appear on the fifth “day.” However, the Bible indicates that during the sixth “day,” God was still in the process of “forming from the ground every wild beast of the field and every flying creature of the heavens.”—Genesis 2:19. Clearly, the Bible’s language makes room for the possibility of some major events during each “day,” or creative period, to have occurred gradually rather than instantly, perhaps some of them even lasting into the following creative “days.” According to Their Kinds Does this progressive appearance of plants and animals imply that God used evolution to produce the vast diversity of living things? No. The record clearly states that God created all the basic “kinds” of plant and animal life. (Genesis 1:11, 12, 20-25) Were these original “kinds” of plants and animals programmed with the ability to adapt to changing environmental conditions? What defines the boundary of a “kind”? The Bible does not say. However, it does state that living creatures “swarmed forth according to their kinds.” (Genesis 1:21) This statement implies that there is a limit to the amount of variation that can occur within a “kind.” Both the fossil record and modern research support the idea that the fundamental categories of plants and animals have changed little over vast periods of time. Contrary to the claims of some Fundamentalists, Genesis does not teach that the universe, including the earth and all living things on it, was created in a short period of time in the relatively recent past. Rather, the description in Genesis of the creation of the universe and the appearance of life on earth harmonizes with many recent scientific discoveries. Because of their philosophical beliefs, many scientists reject the Bible’s declaration that God created all things. Interestingly, however, in the ancient Bible book of Genesis, Moses wrote that the universe had a beginning and that life appeared in stages, progressively, over periods of time. How could Moses gain access to such scientifically accurate information some 3,500 years ago? There is one logical explanation. The One with the power and wisdom to create the heavens and the earth could certainly give Moses such advanced knowledge. This gives weight to the Bible’s claim that it is “inspired of God.”—2 Timothy 3:16.

God himself said so in the Bible. The Bible is true because the Fundies say so. God wouldn't lie and the Fundies couldn't be wrong. That's good enough for me!

I believe in God. I always believe in evolution and everything science related. The genesis....Who is to say that our time span is the same? Noone can no for sure. 1 day to god could be millions of years to us. That is why I do not doubt anything.
