A newborn baby usually will go down from their birth weight by six ounces to a pound then begin to gain. Most babies will then gain around a half a pound a week. Some even gain a pound a week. If I remember correctly this will slow down around 2 to 3 months of age. Then they will gain a bit slower but still steady. I think but am not sure that by the year old marker they normally should have trippled their birth weight. However this is all relative to health and proper feeding.
