Of course not! An attack can be someone yelling at you and getting in your face in an attempt to intimidate. An attack could also be someone yelling at you from 3 blocks away waving a baseball bat while running in your direction...but you are already at your car and have plenty of time to sit down, turn the key, and leave. In neither case would it be appropriate nor acceptable to order an air strike combination of napalm, chemical, and biological payloads obliterating everything within a 100 yard radius and leaving a deadly fallout for the next 200 square miles downwind regardless of how many daycare centers are in the area.

(You did define "any means necessary" to mean "no rules" :p)

Of course not. If you hit me with a whiffle ball bat, I certainly should not have the right to shoot you.

Absolutely but, once incapacitated you have to stop, whether it be a beat down or gunned down. Overkill will land you in court as the defendent.

Definetly. If someone is trying to harm you, take any means necessary to protect yourself

Yes, I feel I have the right - no, the privilege, to do whatever I feel like to defend myself.

    ... not quite ...

I believe a person should use highly destructive defensive tactics and techniques that break the limb being used as an attacking weapon ... for example, if an attacker tries to punch once and gets a broken wrist and a broken elbow as a result of your defense ... but I am firmly against the idea of hitting them back ... I only agree with preventing their hit from hitting me, and doing it in such a destructive way that I can absolutely guarantee that there can not possibly be a second try ... I believe in ending the violence as quickly as possible, without killing.

yes but you should try control yourself, like for example if someone attacked me, I would probably hit them once and throw them to the ground, but I would NEVER do anything beyond that, you should NEVER hit someone when they are on the ground because then you become to attacker and because while they are lying on the ground they can't defend themself. Everyone has the right to be able to defend themself against an attack, but noone should get seriously injured or killed.

Well, what if they are holding a knife, and you are holding a rifle and they attack you, would it be fair to shoot someone when they only have a knife?

Some places have laws about how much is concidered a reasonable amount of defense I think. I would fight to the death...theirs or mine.

In Canada, the law is that if you are attacked by an assailant, you have the right to use reasonable force to escape him. You can't just beat him because you are angry. One man who approached another with his clenched fist, was suddenly hit by the other man first. The other man knocked four teeth out of the mouth of the assailant. The court said that he was justified in doing so. Another man is Canada had an unwanted guest in his home and when the guest wouldn't leave, the owner of the house tried to evict him. Then a fight took place and the owner grabbed a board and swung at the legs of the guest and broke one of his legs. The court said that the owner was justified in using the board to get the man out of his house since he was defending his property at that time. If at all possible, call the police and patiently wait for them unless the person is attacking you or damaging your property.

Not really. Self-defense isnt a license to kill. It is important (if such a situation were to arise that you needed to defend yourself) that you disable (not literally) your attacker rather than make them hurt.

    Thats just my opinion.

no but yes. yes if it is an accidental killing of the person attempting to harm you. no, if you killed them on purpose, or meaning too. if your being raped and you hit the guy over the head with a bat and kill him, no. but if the guy is coming at you and you beat him to death with a bat, then no.

No. Well... "any means necessary (no rules)" No. There are rules here in Florida. More times than not when I go out I exercise my right to carry a concealed weapon.

Here I have the responsibility to meet force with an equal amount of force. That being said... better 12 judge me than 6 carry me!

I believe that you can fight dirty and land as many low blows as necessary to fend off an attacker. Why do you need to show civility to someone who chose to attack you?
