I think that catholics believe life is sacred & to intefere with the process of procreation (at any point) is to disrepsect the religion & the faith - I am not religous so correct me where I am wrong :)

The Vatican, one of the richest organizations in the world, really could not give a dam how poor Catholic members are! If they endorsed birth control, they would lose members, the kids that would not have been born, thus lose the strong hold of the Catholic church. By them banning birth control, they hope that they the Catholic religion, will be the greatest religion on the Earth. Like all religions, they are greedy and want to become THE religion of the World. Don't forget, almost all wars on Earth are caused because of religion. They don't care if you are the poorest person on Earth, they want you to have kids so that they become Catholics at all cost. The more members they get the stronger they become and richer they get. It's money and greed that all religion want. I have never heard the Pope say, let's donate millions of dollars to the poor parents to help them raise the kids that they didn't want, but forced on them, by being against birth control!

It is the TRADITIONAL church policy.
    It changes ever so slowly.

From what I hear for most Catholics, BC is now a matter of conscience more so than doctrine.

They can always absolve themselves at confessional.

There is a liberal and conservative movement among Catholics. Eventually, the tide will turn.
As it will for celibacy for priests.

Strong public opinion, and decreasing donations do have their impact.

  • The world is running low on Catholics, especially priests. Many are in prison, and Catholic pedophiles are having second thoughts about entering the clergy to find boys.

Also, poor people are generally less educated and more gullible than middle class folks. This means they are more likely to swallow the wacky religious dogma without question.

That quality (gullibility) is important in religion and politics. That's how Cowboy George has got away with invading Iraq, for example. Gullible citizens never questioned him about it and demanded answers.

I honestly believe it's been the policy because it means more CATHOLIC children. What is the best way to add more members besides conversion? MAKE THEM.
