Both. Sometimes the girl has had JUST ENOUGH of the guy. Guys sometimes can be irritating, and I admit that. But girls are more :D! Guys usually cheat on the girls more than the girls do so the guy does it more. According to my research, that's what I found out.

How would we know that?! I don't know who might have ever done any accurate survey on that! I would say there is no answer to give you other than a wild guess.

In general relationships, we do not know. In the US, 2/3 of divorces are filed by women. This may give us some hint.

It is a matter of passive and assertive. My personal experience says that the assertive one in the pair usually breaks it off. If two assertive people are going out, the breakup is usually explosive and nobody can tell who actually ended it. If two passive people are in the relationship, then it gradually dissolves into nothing, and again nobody can make the claim that they actually broke it off.
