Help answer this question below.

The "Places" category has 100,903 questions as I write this question. It has the most number of questions (OTB only has 97,907 questions). If that's the case, why is it that the "Places" category is not listed on the left side of the screen?

    Probably because many of those questions were computer generated, so the number of the questions does not really reflect the overall interest of the "normal" Answerbaggers.

    You can observe that most of those questions (77,133)are in states subcategories of the subcategory "Places » North America » United States » States".
    On the other side, look at some of the 74200 questions asked (and answered) by the user "AB-Wikibot"

    Becase that would be the wrong "place." Everything belongs in its own place and should be put back in its place when you get through with it so we don't misplace it and have to hunt for it.

    Whew... too many places - I think I'll go find a place where I can get a drink...

    "Places" is a subcategory of "Travel," which is on the left side of the screen. Also, most of the questions in Places are computer generated ones like "What are the demographics of so-and-so state?"
