If you were guilty of a terrible crime but your family/friends believed in your innocence and fought for years to prove it, would you allow them to mortgage their homes, wipe out their savings and sustain financial ruin for you?

    no not at all - if i did ever commit a terrible crime (& I would like to think that it will never happen) I would not want to drag my family down with me.

    My crime - My punishment. Why should they suffer more than they have to

    Definitely not. I would tell them the truth - That I was guilty. If you don't, then your relationship will be ruined when they find out another way (and they will find out).
    If I really couldn't tell them though, I think I'd just make sure they didn't give everything up for me. It'd be so selfish to do that when you've brought your punishment upon yourself.

    I guess the moral of the story is, don't commit any terrible crimes & lie to your family about it! Heh.
