You don't. Not unless you work for the gas company. That's THEIR job. It's way too easy to damage the line and risk an explosion.
When I worked for Columbia Gas of Ohio we had a special number contractors and others building had to call, they sent out a guy to locate and mark the buried gas lines for that purpose. Call the regular phone number for that gas company and the representative should be able to set up something along these lines.
call before you dig. they have gps and can locate every pipe they put in.
You can also call Dig Safe.
There are utility location companies who can find the lines as well.
