  • No one exactly invented it - it evolved. Women have been using devices to lift, elevate or support their breasts since ancient times. The bra as we now know it is most closely related to the inventions of the late 1800s.
  • Bra is short for brassiere, which was the original name. The modern type of bra was made around the 1900's, but wasn't mass produced until around 1930. In the 1500's, women wore more corsets than actual bra type of garments. Beyond that, women wore various bra type of garments as far back as the 1400's.
