I met a cute girl from the deep south (Alabama) when I was in L.A many years ago ... I loved her accent! > Does anyone here have a southern accent? ... Do fellow Americans like it?

I have a great southern accent but I'm a guy and butt ugly. I like a real southern accent in a girl but hate a fake one.

Je préfère les "accengues" Français du sud, although I don't mind southern American accents unless the person is obviously a redneck hillbilly racist voting for Bush or something like that :-)

I used to have a southern accent until my father enrolled me in classes to lose it. When we moved north from louisiana, folks up here didn't seem to like the accent..lol :)

years ago i heard of a survey where people from different areas of the country listened to people speak, on a tape, and universally the listeners rated the voices with southern accents as 'unintelligent'.

personally, i enjoy the sound of a southern accent.

It works in that southern belle kind of way, but honestly I think a southern accent makes you sound a bit dumb whether thats the case or not.

Im from Kentucky. I went to Miami once and they got a kick out of it. I have a bunch of friends from California that think its adorable. I met a guy one time that thought it was the hottest thing he'd ever heard, but somehow amazing that I could pronounce stuff correctly lol.

I do but it's not as strong as others where I live. There's alot of people from Northern Illinois at a university nearby that think I'm really twangy but I don't notice.
