  • No. They listen to every kind of music imaginable. Although, country western is pretty popular in rural Utah. :)
  • The Church leadership recommends that we choose uplifting music that promotes good values, but they leave it up to the individual to decide just what that means and don't condemn people who choose something that they (the leaders) might think is not a good choice. Chris, I did!?! I don't see a missing "n". ;-) Seriously, Thanks for pointing that out for me. ************** "Alatea: Country and Western is not uplifting but Kim says Mormons listen to it in rural Utah? anywhere else?" Once again you show just how petty and closed minded you are. As with any genera of music, Country-Western can convey ideas that uplift or tear down. It's all up to the artist to choose what they want to do with his/her talent. However, you are too busy finding fault to realize this.
  • Lately, I've been listening to OPM (Filipino music) and filk because I'm tired of just about the rest of what's being played. A flip through my CDs and Mini-Discs will show you everything from Tri-Destiny to Jimmy Buffett to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Meat Loaf, soundtracks, Oldies, Limeliters, Rafael Mendez, Herb Alpert and the TJB, country . . . Yeah. Real specific.
  • Country can be uplifting, not all of the songs are about the girl/guy leaving, the dog dying and the truck breaking!
  • There are good and bad songs in every genre. For the church to blanket one genre as bad or the only genre of choice would not make sense. Using your own judgment based on the spirit and prayer is very much encouraged if there is any doubt.
  • heh heh my best guy friend is mormon and he likes the band Candle. I don't know if I'd call them totally redneck-country-western but there's definitely an influence. A twang, as it were.
  • It pretty much follows their culture, though Mormons are encouraged to avoid "inappropriate" media (includes movies, music, books, etc). We are to use our own judgment. Most Mormons avoid songs with "too much" profanity (different members tolerate different amounts). I listen to pop Brazilian, pop Hawaiian, classic rock, and some pop rock. On Sundays I listen to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and song by other Christian artists.
  • While this question has been pretty thoroughly answered, I might point out that *some* so-called “Mormons” might have a specific type of music that they listen to. Each of us is an individual, with individual tastes. However, I’d imagine that most of us are more along the lines of what has been described: we listen to the same eclectic mix as most other people do; we just tend to weed out the profane stuff. If you ever come back from your four-year absence, thanks for a great question! ;-)
  • Yeah, Marie & Donnie Osmond's
  • HAHA THAT'S FUNNY! I live in Utah, but I'm definitely far far from Mormon...but these answers are ridiculous. Check out my band: www.myspace.com/firebornex ...we have Mormon fans as well as any other religion or non-religion. The Mormons don't listen to country or anything. They listen to whatever else anybody listens to: deathmetal, rap, hardcore, electronic, screamo, rock, and yes, country
  • Yes. Music with notes, chords, melodies and lyrics. And very often they fore-go the lyrics. .
