Not at all. So what if they don't like to ride the bus. You shouldn't have to cart them around when there is a service set up to do it for you.
They could bus, or walk, that isn't mean in the least bit. Tell them that the vows in your marriage to your husband didn't include "Love, honor, and chauffeur his kids around til death do you part..." Or did it? If they did, you're stuck.
You're not their personal driver. School begins in the morning when the bus picks them up and ends in the afternoon when it drops them off again. Of course if they want to get up earlier in the morning and cook breakfast for you the way you like it and clean up after you're done then maybe there's a little bit of room for bargaining.
Of course not. Everyone rides the bus at my kids' school. That's what it's for.
no, they just don't want people to see them get off the bus because it's 'not cool'. Forget that, it's there for a reason, and their friends won't care if they ride the bus or not.
I rode the bus until I was 18, and finally bought myself a car. They should stop whining and drive themselves, spending their own money on gas, if they don't like the bus.
Riding the bus builds character. When they get a car and can drive themselves, they will appreciate it more and not take that privledge so much for granted. At least you can hold it over their head if they mess up. ;)
I think the only fair thing is to have the same standards for them as you do your own kids. Why shuttle teenagers around when they can ride the bus? No, it's not mean.
My stepdad is trying to send me to juvenile! My mom isn't doing anything to help out.

You're reading Would it me mean for me to make my stepkids ride the bus to school? My kids ride the bus, but they are younger and they like it. My stepkids are 13 and 15 and they don't want to ride the bus.

My "service" was at the end of my legs. Kids are way too lazy anymore.

Thanks but when I tell them they have to ride the bus, I am the wicked stepmother, you know? I am to the point that I don't care what they think anymore because I have kissed 3 other stepkids ass and they are moved out now and they have forgotten all about everything that I done for them. I am really upset about this, sorry...

pfft! It's still your house. Wicked stepmother or not, they can get their happy asses on the bus. Humiliation is one of the most wonderful parts of adolescence. Let them experience it to the fullest.

I have a twisted sense of humor at times, some one this site could attest to that. Wanna play up to that wicked stepmother thing? Put a personalized "Glass Slipper" on the mantle, proclaiming yourself emmancipated from all stepmothering duties until time of either they earn your respect, or they could get a pumpkin to turn into a Prius. Think I'm joking? Here...

Yeah that's a good one but I would need the large one I have a big mantle. I think I will just start acting like the bitch they want to make me out to be.

Urk I lived waaayyy in the country when I was in school and I had to ride the bus to and from school. Hell it was about dark before I got home in the fall and winter time. These kids can actually ride the bus and still be home around the same time that they would if I went and sat in a car line for 45 min's to pick them up.

I walked rain, shine, snow, sleet, whatever. Was on time, every time. My mom didn't work, so she "could" have driven us, but, heck, most of us did walk in my day -- I'm 39, btw.
