The key on the right serves as a replacement for a right mouse button; pressing it is the same as right-clicking.

The windows key performs Windows-specific actions. Examples include:

Windows key = open start menu
    Windows key + L = Log out
    Windows key + E = Open Explorer
Windows key + D = Minimize all windows

The windows emblem is a combo of Ctrl-Esc without having to press two buttons on the keyboard. It's known as the start key and was created for windows 95 as a quick button to almost the start menu. It has served that function ever since all the way to Windows Vista.

The other key opens drop down menus like pushing the right mouse button on any windows based PC mouse.

Along with the advice received from others (I myself didn't even know that Windows-D would minimize open windows; Windows-M does the same thing, and Windows-Shift-M resizes them).

In addition to the others mentioned:
    Windows-R = "Run"
Windows-F = "Find" or "Search" (for files in Explorer)

If you can still find it on the 'Net somewhere, there's a program called WinKey that allows you to set up hotkey combinations of all kinds to open document files, directories and executables of all kinds.

It fulfilled one more act of Bill copying Apple.

Oh yeah...bunch of hotkey combos as mentioned use it and then some...just like the "right click" menu key on the right of the keyboard.

I use it in my autohotkey scripts since typically windows applications don't use any win-* combination besides those that windoze grabs.
